Goodies

Well, it looks like I picked out a decent selection from your photos Archie!

OK, here we go.
Picture 1, l. to r.
FA 54 30-06 made by Frankford Arsenal. Experimental round coated with teflon to ease loading and extraction under adverse conditions. Say about 20.

D T 2 40 7.5mm Swiss Aluminium case, loaded by Thun (T) with metal supplied by Durlach (D). a nice round, say 25

F 5 99. .30-40 US Government (.30 Krag) loaded at Frankford in 1899. Cases were tinned for tropical service. Not particularly scarce but interesting, say 5.

C DAL C .303 loaded at Dominion Arsenal. lindsay. Quebec. Say 5

KN 1918 VIIIB Mark II Buckingham incendiary loaded by Kings Norton Metal Co. in 1918 for Royal Flying Corps. Beware, Section 5 prohibited. Worth about 50 - 75.

Picture 2

RG 52 7mmHV 7 mm High Velocity round loaded at ROF Radway Green in 1952 as part of the EM2 trials. The yellow tip is ball Type B (140 grn lead cored). This is the commonest of the 7mm HV rounds but still a nice item. Worth say 25.

R^L BIV Mark IV air service incendiary. Phosphorous filled Buckingham type. Beware- Section 5 prohibited!Say 10.

FAS 7 Should be FA 57. Experimental 30-06 necked to .22. Nice round, worth maybe 20.

RA 18 H Guard load 30-06 loaded by Remington Arms Hoboken plant. Not particularly scarce but say 5

St .... German WW2 7.92 x 57mm. If the case is stained green as it looks, then it is a Nahpatrone round for silenced weapons. A very nice round, 25-40.

Picture 3

Mars 9mm. An extremely good cartridge, a pity the condition is so poor. in good nick it would be worth about 250-300, but even in that condition may be worth 100.

B K * *. Early 7.63mmm Borchardt or Mauser round by Kynoch Birmingham (K B). Not worth very much, say 5.

K3.. 7.65mm Parabellum for the Swiss Luger with aluminium case, loaded by Thun. Worth about 10-15.

A very interesting lot of rounds. The values I have given are only my opinion. Remember the two factors that affect value are condition (plus live or not) and how much the buyer wants it!

Also, Section 5 rounds are prohibited even if inert!

TonyE

Hi Archie,
Just thought I would add my comments to your pics, pic 1, Mills grenade baseplugs, the brass one goes with either of the two without the red stripe, could be No5's or 23's. The metal rod goes with the brass plug to enable it to be fired from a rifle. Have a look at this website, it goes into detail www.millsgrenades.co.uk The diecast plugs would be suitable for the No36 Mk1, the red stripe. No36's in good complete condition, 40-50. No5's and 23's good and complete, 60-70. there are lots of variants, price is just a guide. Pics 2 and 3, Mills grenades, No36, 5 and 23 ? hard to tell without detail. the last item in these pics is a Russian/Warsaw Pact F1 type grenade, the body looks modern but the fuse is WW2 type. Not sure about the cable Tie though !:tinysmile_eyebrow_t I should think that the lever has broken away from the fuse. Not uncoomon, about 30.
Picture 4, a french illumination mine/flare, modern and not hard to find, 15-20.
I am sure you are aware that your stick grenade is a modern reproduction, a good gap filler and ideal for reinactors, I think these cost about 25 brand new, a real one would probaly set you back ten times that amount.
Hope you find this helpful, Tony.

Hi Archie

I did not need the references to ID that lot, as I knew what they all were by looking at them (sad what some people carry in their head).

However, to answer your question, here are a couple of pictures of the my reference material. The file boxes on top of the bookcases are all ammunition drawings, mainly British as that is my area of interest.

Regards
TonyE

Was looking at them and the seller asked me if i knew what they where?.,Told him i assumed they were fuze covers??

The man told me they were candle snuffers!!
