Whats it worth?

Hi Armystuff,
TonyE has pretty much answered your question here, I agree with him on the possible id of the small round and the rolled brass case but as mentioned it would be easier to pin it down with some measurments. The small round can really only be the 2.7mm Kolibri Auto or the 3mm Kolibri as the next rebated rimless round of this sort of size is the 4.25mm Liliput Auto and it does not look that big.
The 2.7mm Kolibri Auto is a now long obsolete round and a collectable one although i am not able to tell you it's value it wont be a huge amount. As a point of interest the weight of the bullet is only 3 grains compared to that of 55 grains for the modern NATO 5.56mm bullet. And according to a reliable source only developed a whopping 3 foot pounds of muzzle energy.

As for the larger brass case i am looking into that one as TonyE said there are a fair few rounds that are similar to that.
Hope this is usefull,
Weasel.

whats it worth

hi weasel
thanks for the extra information im enjoying this very interesting .
i checked out the link from tonyE on the kolibri adams gun, single rounds are selling for over $70 each ?
i got the small round from a gun smith in spain when i lived and worked there he was selling his whole collection as he had a dickie heart and didnot have long to live and his son was not into ordnance .
i bought lots of them .
he sold the bigger ordnance to a german guy shells etc the week before .
that was the only saturday i did not make the rastro spanish car boot sale
thanks a lot armystuff,

I checked the dimensions of the .45 Gatling and your case is too long. The Gatling case was 59.5mm.

It is almost certainly one of the many .450 sporting rounds, and a case length of 68 mm probably makes it a .450 -2 3/4". I am not a commercial ammo specialist as I only collect military so hopefully someone else can confirm the ID.

$70 for a Kolibri is probably a bit high but not much. The price of good collectable ammo has gone up considerably as I am sure everyone is aware. I have just paid 75 for a .5 Colt-Kynoch round from 1901. What was most annoying was that it was to replace the one that was nicked from my collection a few years back, which I had bought in the States for $7.50 in about 1965!

Regards
TonyE

.5 Colt Kynoch

Ah, but not just any old Colt cartridge.
There was an experimental Colt machine gun, presumably based on the Browning design, tested in 1901. The details of the gun have been lost over time but there are various versions of the cartridge.

One is the .5 Colt-Kynoch which itself comes in two types, one semi-rimmed and the other rimless. This is also known as the .500 North, after Mr.North who was an employee of the Colt company and based in London. It is thought the rounds may have been made in Europe as some bear the headstamp "T" (not used by any UK maker) and the bullets are steel jacketed, a European practice. I have the semi-rimmed version.

The other was the .5 Colt-Kings Norton which was similar but rimmed. These are even rarer than the above. These are unheadstamped also but were probably made in the UK as the bullets are copper jacketed.

There is no record of the gun being tested at Woolwich, but they were aware of it as a chart exists comparing the details of the above rounds with the 13mm German T-Gwr. and the experimental .600/500 round (that became the .5 Vickers in 1922.)

I will post a picture of my round shortly.
Regards
TonyE

Armystuff the first "round" in your photos above is a "vent" these are used with guns usually tanks that use caseless ammunition (chargebags only) basically a separate primer from what i can work out.i have no idea of value but i would happily pay between 2 and 5 for one

hi spotter

Hi

The first round is as Spotter says, the igniter for the 120mm gun on the Chieftain tank.

Second looks like a 7.65 x 54 mm belgian Mauser made by Fabrique Nationale. Not sure what the remainder of the headstamp is from your description.

Third is a British 7.62 x 51 NATO round made by ROF Radway Green in Cheshire. The cross in circle is a styalised version of the NATO logo and means the round has been manufactured to the NATO STANAG agreement whereby ammunition is interchangeable between NATO countries.

Next two are ordinary .38 Specials and the last one is a blank (are you sure it is 9 and not 8mm?) made by Guillo Fiocchi of Lecco (GFL) in Italy for the blank firing Knall pistols which are popular in Europe.

I am afraid none of them are worth anything much except the first one as Spotter says.
