WW1 .303 wood bulleted blank

Please see the attached photos, apparently a wood bulleted .303 blank. The wood bullet is hollow, the case appears to be chemically darkened but is a standard MkVII case, made by RL in 1916.
the wad is typical of those used with blanks, having a dark shellac finish. It came from the recent owners grandfather along with a 1.59” Crayford base fuzed semi AP round, a rare No.86 fuze (factory sectioned), a pair of 13mm tankgewehr rounds etc. Any thoughts?

many thanks, Dave

Despite blanks with wooden bullets appearing in the Second World War, there seems to have been no official introduction of these in the First World War. B. A. Temple lists a wood blank from 1918 in his Identification Manual, but acknowledges they were unofficial, likely intended for use with the Lewis LMG. He notes that the bullets were painted white.
