Good to come across this thread again.....its been a while since it started and I got hold of a Swiss G11 Schmidt Rubin straight pull in 7.5 mm X 55 some years back...I should have updated sooner!
Used to shoot pistol and rifle in the 90's but gave up as UK law seemed to want to turn sports shooters into criminals. My best pistol was a S&W 559. Worst rifle Russian 1980 Olympic .22.
It recent years occasionally have shot at Hythe with a local club. Mainly SMLE, P14 and an AR15 (single shot). Should do it more often.
Son in law brought up a few newer pieces of his collection. A 1917, 1903A3 & an M1 Garand. I supplied a No 4 Mk1/2, an M1 Carbine and an M91/30 MN. Fun but expensive. No more surplus .30, .30-06 or .303 so $1-1.50/shot with some of it. A rare event with such a distinguished selection of vintage firearms. A good time was had by both of us.
Enough talking, let's see some pics....my son got bored with the Carbine, loves the Bren, he is ten, next year he wants to try out the Garand and some other vintage rifles...probably not a good idea, so I promised him some AR and AK time instead next spring.....getting expensive, but at least it keeps the little turd off the computer.
Oh....I also introduced him to some beltfed, he did not like it....said it was to easy to hit the 12" steel plates at 200 yards...I welded up an adapter and put the 1919 on a Bren tripod and put springs on it so it balances out even on the trigger end, a real joy to shoot....fun for the whole family....I have been thinking of putting a scope on it as my eyes at 59 are getting weak.....only in America.....
