Unidentified 117/119 'Plug Firing'

Hi Guys,

I hope someone can identify this 'Plug Firing' and what it's purpose was. It is solid steel, and superficially resembles a 117 or 119 fuze. I thought it may be from a drill round, but aren't they made of brass & wood? My only other thought was that maybe it had something a gunfitter may use as part of a calibration round or something similar. This one has me truly baffled!

It's a plug rep 230 which is a naval fuze.

Thanks Andy, but what is it's use as it's totally inert. To my mind it certainly resembles a 117 or 119 HE fuze though. How did the navy employ these?

The no 230 is the same general shape as the no 117 / 119's.

View attachment 116339View attachment 116340To answer your original question!! Commonly used in practice shells with an inert filler. Perfect for gunnery practice at much less cost than using live ammunition. Replica fuzes are used in most calibres. Couple pics attached. Tig:wink:

Hi I think the N230 Fuze was fitted to the 6" BL Shell It had a separate gaine
