Lu 216

Hi,

My opinion is that LU216 is the name given by the manufacturer IOT propose the grenade to the army.
Once standard ordnance, GR MA OF F1A is the name given by the army.

Regards,

Hello,

French LU 216 Gr is different from the GR MA OF F1A (Grenade a main offensive modele F1A - Offensive hand grenade model F1A).
I think it's a mistake in lexpev website.

I have seen the Minenhaz LU 216 as a manufacturer's experimental submitted for comparison trial, with the ribs.
The SGDBDR LU 216 looks as though it was accepted for service, but the ribs were found not to contribute anything to performance so were omitted.
The ribs may also have created a higher production moulding failure rate due to unnecessary complexity.

Is the ribbing not merely a visual and tactile identification aid to differentiate between Offensive and Defensive grenades? From the description of the fragmentation sleeves of the LU 213, the ribbing would seem to serve no other purpose.

I can only say that both the ribbed and smooth versions of the LU 216 in the earlier posts were marked as OFF, which I took to mean Offensive.
The experimentals that I saw were also marked OFF and were ribbed.

hello
maybe in the beginning they used the same ribbed plastic body for the two version but later switched for the smooth body for the OF to distingish the two models ?
