I'm looking for some info on this shell i picked up recently, as far as i can tell it's ww2 british semi armour piercing. i'd like to restore and reband it. does anyone have any drawings or pics of the original war time specs. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
i put it next to a 17 pdr APCBC to give an idea of size and yes it is heavy :tinysmile_eyebrow_t

thanks tim. i'd seen the wiki pics and wondered why they seem to have a fuze in the ballistic cap. do you know the colour code for the colour. cheers

It's a similar arrangement as shown in the plate below, which in this case shows an 8" British naval semi-armour piercing (SAP) projectile.

The fuze is used with a small explosive charge so that it can distributes a coloured spotting charge on impact with the target.

two things, why has the initial photo of the shell got double bands and also the K device would work if a closer spotter aircraft was watching. just looked in the 1945 edition of Handbook Ammunition Naval has a drawing of types of driving band and the double is 6 inch MKSXXII to XXIII guns
