Boer War Shell identification required

Neilingtons

New Member
Hi All

I have 2 shells brought back from the Boer War and engraved by my Great Grandfather.

One is a pom pom shell mounted with four 303 around it.

The other I am unable to identify. He has engrave it with pictures of President Steyn and Kruger and Queen Victoria. The inside diameter is 83mm, the base diameter is 103mm and it is 198mm high.
I have attached some pictures and was hoping someone will be able to identify it?

thanks

This is a cartridge case for the 12 Pounder 8 Cwt field gun.

It was made in 1897.

Other members will be able to tell you more about the rest of the markings.
