Any other markings and or history?
Assuming this is 30mm ADEN, it's somewhat unusual - Official RAF publications have the Mk. 3Z as HE not HEI. In 1971 when this was apparently manufactured the No. 3Z was probably listed as obsolescent/obsolete for further production as in 1970 it was being replaced by Mk. 6Z HE.
Having re-read the document it states the Mk. 6Z will be of new manufacture and eventually replace the No. 3Z. Thus the No. 3Z was still very much current in 1970.
I think what you have is a BMARC (British Manufacturing and Research Company) assembled round. Utilising a Radway Green case, a BMARC projectile (with sintered iron driving band) filled Pentolite and also their AM2 fuze. It would appear they were using 'BMR' as their monogram. I would be interested to know their reasoning for calling it a Mk. 3Z.
Interesting yes.
The cavity has a flat bottom and not the usual rounded base of the Aden projectile.
The flat is level with the lower part of the factory crimp. Certainly not the HEI projectile you show on the image.
It is 65.7mm deep, threaded 24 tpi fuze and 22.8mm across the threads.
I checked Aden black Practice and threads are 28 tpi and 23.7mm diameter.
The flat base inside an MF Defa is 75mm deep so the projectile is a mystery but clearly marked HEI MK 3Z.
Photos are hard to see the projectile stamps but the fuze stamps seem clear enough. 5 views of the projectile shown so just zoom in.
