3 favorite pieces

Hi Caracal,
Yes your quite correct my 2cm Pzgr40 does indeed have a screw in fitting to contain a tracer element. I think there are two different types one longer than the other, i believe that the one in the link with the red band is the same as mine.
You are spot on with your idea about the favourite things they do have a story behind them and may not always be the most expensive things you buy.
Best Weasel.

yup i have just looked again at the municion.org pic, it has a base plug too... i thought it hadn't, i was wrong!

i send you a PM

regards

Wow!! What a string of great items. Like many of you I find it very difficult to sort out just 3 favorites, but I had to join this thread. The first item is a cal. .50 ball round that is bent, beat up and very dirty, but it is a prize in my collection. On April 4, 1943, a B-24 bomber left Lybia on a night bombing raid over Naples, Italy. Under radio silence, it got lost on the return trip and flew 450 miles deep into the Sahara Desert until it ran out of fuel and crashed. It was lost until May, 1960 when an oil exploration team discovered it very well preserved. The crew bailed out and landed 15 miles from the plane, survived and walked 60 miles off into the desert in a futile attempt to reach someone. Their trail was still visible and their remains found many months later. This sad looking cal. .50 round came from one of the machine guns on that aircraft, the infamous Lady Be Good. The second item is a Viet Cong CS stick grenade. I picked it up personally and after inerting it I can tell you that it was a very potent mix of CS. I think the grenade was actually made in China based on the markings on the handle and then got a local paint job. Never saw many of these in country. The last item is the 37mm HEP round on the far left of the photograph. The brass case is 10 3/8 inches long and the exposed projectile is 6 1/4 inches long. No headstamp and the rotating band is marked LOT YCC 1197 37MM HEP DF&IN 3 54. Don't know anything about it, but it is an eye-catching round to me. I'm anxious to see some more "Top 3's" from others.

Hard to pick the favorite 3 for me, here is a start from the collection:

* U.S. Hunter Chemical Burning Grenade (Only one I have ever seen).

* U.S. Anti Disturbance Mine

* U.S. XM70 24 Hour Firing Device (Only one I have ever seen)

Stay safe,

Frank
