Good afternoon,
Am I right in having read (possibly on Bocn) that some heavier German First war shells had a coat of Red Oxide undercoat (?) (or similar) applied prior to the final colour going on?
The reason I ask is that I have a 15cm Shrap which would make a good candidate for a paint job (still not decided) , and more so, that I have an exploded 15cm Shrap that has the Blue top coat, but an applied 'Orange' coat beneath. Could this Orange coat constitute some form of undercoat or metal protection?
Many thanks in advance for any info.
