Marked for the Army since Naval date are in roman numbers for the month, while army used letters:

Army Navy
Mai V

etc.

Marked for the Army...Maybe for a railway gun?
Researched one of these a while ago, initially got very confused by the 175mm diameter,as 175mm guns aren't common, the bore being 170mm.

cheers
Bob

Hi Bob
I thought the 17cm guns were 173mm bore?
173x726R x216 17cm K18 in Morserlafette
173x1050R x203 17cm K(E), SK L/40 , SK C/95
Where did you learn of 170mm bore?
Charley

In 1916 -1917, battleships of the class "Braunschweig" and "Deutschland" were considered obsolete and removed from the line.
since then, there secondary armament and notably the 17 cm SK L/40 were released to the army.
At first, they were mounted on two wheels carriage: 17 cm SK L/40 i.R.L. (in Rder Lafette) .
In second time they were put on railways cars: 17 cm SK L/40 auf Eisenbahn Wagen "Samuel"

The bore was 172,5 mm

You're right Charlie. I was thuinking of the 17cm category. The case i was researching was 17.5cm , gun bore/lands of 173mm(nominal) and rifling/grooves of 175mm.
