From bazooka Chris

3 pdr "MAX"

whats this?

Ha ha ha:tinysmile_fatgrin_t
Thats a good one Chris, would never have guessed! As a bit of useless information, you find very little of these in the rubbish over here.
You deliver the empty back to the shops, and you get money back (2,50 kr)...
Ok, thanks for the replys. 3 pdr, so it's british then?
What period and how much would you pay for it?
I have no idea...

3 pounder

Yes T42, strongly resembles British 3 pounder and would make a good project projectile. My guess would be WWI era (not sure). I don't know what it's worth but i'd pay 20.00us + shipping..Dano

whats this?

Cheers Dano!
I'll see if the seller can see any markings under the paint...

Hi 3 pounders aren't quite my area of expertise but just looking at the photo the band doesn't look quite right for a 3 pounder. It looks more like the band you get on those Russian 1 pounders. Just a thought - may be worth considering further.
Dave.

whats this?

Thanks guys.
Hmm, checked the advert again and it says it's around 60 mm wide...
Have no clue with this stuff, isn't that bigger than a 3 pdr?
As Manuel used to say, "I know nothing!" (is there anyone who remembers Faulty Towers or is it just me)

it is a Hotchkiss 6 Pdr. 57mm

This is a good item, it has the Hotchkiss 3 ribbed band, it could be made in France or the U.S. under contract. The flat tip if original indicates common shell, that is it's Iron and not meant to go through much. It will be base fused and hollow. It's worth more like up to$100 if it's nice under the paint. If U.S. made the cases are not rare it seems. Go get it and let us know how it is under the paint. If made by Hotchkiss the markings may be poor, if U.S. made they will be sharp.
Took another look - I think it will clean and the flat tip looks right. The drawing is per Hotchkiss 1889, the designs stayed the same in various sizes.

Sorry to disagree with you Gordon, but I don't think you are on the right track as it has the wrong profile. I believe this is a German contract round. Take a look at the picture below. Although the driving band is slightly different it is more of a match. The picture is of a 5.3cm Gruson shell for the WW1 German gun. The only markings will be on the base and could be very feint - Gwk. Only my two cents worth!

I looked again

and it has only three rounded ribs on the band, So I'll stay with my guess- I just hope he gets it !:tinysmile_shy_t:

Not really !

Still looks like a Hotchkiss to me, but stuff gets moved around. It could also be Russian, they used the Hotchkiss pattern . Let us know if you get it and how it is with that yellow paint off -

3pr ?

Dont think its British 3pr, looks more interesting, I'd go for it and if sensible money get it then research it further. Certainly early pre end WW1. 2pr

i am also not sure

i was also thinking because of the driving band it looks for me more as an german PAK round (Anti tank gun round )may an 5,7cm PAK !
But only an opinion i am not an specialist for this kind of rounds !!

best regards David

I think its made in Sweden, i had one 2 months ago, almost no markings on the projectile, i was lucky that it was on the case, never removed, was made by Bofor Sweden, but like alway i can be wrong. Ben
