Hi all
Managed to sneak away for a couple of hours at the weekend and had a look around an old German gun emplacement here in Southern Norway.
Found some 1939 dated Mauser cases and what i first thought were 303.
After i got home and washed off the dirt found that the 303 cases were not 303... i'm stumped and after looking around on the nett am none the wiser.
Can anyone out there help?

If you can't make it out on the picture, headstamp reads:

The cases are very much like 303, but the diameter of the projectile is larger.
The Mauser case is one that was found in the same place.
All case necks were slightly distorted so difficult to take an accurate measurement. Lets say around 8,5 mm.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the best

Cases are from Dutch 7.9x57R machine gun, made at Dordrecht (D). These were used in Dutch aircraft machine guns, but may have been used as secnd line weapons by the Germans in Norway. I will leave others to expand on that.

Thank you.
I have no clue when it comes to items like this.
I'm surprised this would turn up over here, but then again i understand the Germans used huge amounts of captured guns and ammunition.
