I picked these up recently.

I wonder if they did an APFSDS version :tinysmile_hmm_t2:

Hi Dave,
There was a thread about these a while ago, I remember shooting these in the mid to late 80's. Can't say they were the most accurate air rifle pellet ever produced.
Best Weasel.

Dave, it is good to see that you are finally finding APDS stuff in the quantity that satisfies your wishes.

I remember reading somewhere that these needed a tool to insert them into the barrel of a break-barrel air rifle. I used to have a plastic "tin" of the .177 Version. The sabot on the .177s was pre-attached and they were inserted into rhe barrel as normal.

if you read hickys post in the link i posted you will see the loading tool etc

A different take on the thread title - the pic below includes the smallest APDS I have, an FN experimental 5.56mm dated 87.

Experimental cartridges under 6mm: FN 5.56x45 APDS, .12 US (3x47), 3.5x50 FN, 4.3x45 German, .17 US (4.3x46), 4.6x36 HK/CETME (with spoon-tip bullet), 4.85mm British, 5.56x38 FABRL, 5.6mm Eiger

Dave.

Do they make much difference? I have a .22 lightening for fun, occasionally taking out pigeons to eat. I wouldn't mind trying something new.

I used something similar many years ago, Prometheus?
Steel core with a fixed white nylon sabot whichI doubt detached until impact.
No good for rabbits and left strings of nylon in the barrel but always fun for shooting through whisky bottles without shattering them.
I havn't seen them for years, perhaps not legal any more?

more info on the sabot pellets

see post 3 in this topic in which i put a link to a post with prometheus and more info on the sabot pellets

you could try rats or squirrels...........

Grilled rat.....yum!

I haven't been able to find promethius pellets since the mid nineties. I have asked a few places and no one seems to remember. They were expensive though, but accurate.

Well put it this way, with my sons air pistol a standard pellet goes through one side of a can, these go through the front and out the back so them seem to work well.

As for accuracy I have no idea, can's aren't too hard to shoot at the range he uses it.

Dave.

Hi all
I still have a few 100 of the SABO in .22 as I actually find they work very well in my Falcon pre-charge air rifle. At 130 feet they go clean through a 1" thick bit of marine ply & the wifes flower bed then the back fence!!
I also have the Prometheus ones & find these are good but are slightly longer so do not fit the Falcon mag. I have found that with these the steel core separates from the plastic on impact/penetration & carries on for quite a way (messes up a rats day!!).
@ pointblanko I think you can get the prometheus ones on evil bay?? The SABO`s crop up occasionally too.

Ah...That's out of my price range.

yes its very expensive but i am sure some more will be listed sooner or later, and the prices should become more realistic after a while once more have been listed and less people need to get them for there collection.
