Hi once again,
Heres a interesting piece for you all. Picked it up in a Fuze Trade with four other various fuzes on the weekend.
I have found out some info on it so far,but must add im no expert on old US fuzes by any means. What i have found out so far is that it was used on the 8 inch HE projectile on the US Dreadnaught class of ship around 1903 ish.It was fitted in place of a normal PD Fuze before firing. It wasnt shipped in place. These guns were i believe used in US coastal batteries after their life ended on board these iron monsters.oh:
It is part strippable, the nose does come off as the pinch screws have been drilled out at some point. The time unit is still present and looks in good order.Unfortunatly the base screws are seized so cant take the unit out.But i think its best left for the time being.:tinysmile_eyebrow_t
I will post some more pictures of it later tonight.Unfortunatly it has a ding in the skirt edge and thread, outherwise its on good order with good threads. An interesting piece, not my thing really as i only collect WW2 German fuzes. But im sure it will bring in some great comments and interest on BOCN.
Best regards to all,
