Unknown rifle round

I just recently got a small rifle round from a local army surplus store, and it's a slightly odd looking round, and has no markings other than the stamp "1A 95". It's 8mm wide at the base, and the casing itself is 24mm high, but this one still has a bullet in it making it 35mm high. So if anyone has any idea that would be great!

Hi Spaceinvader,
I'd really like to help but without more information I cannot identify this one. My best guess at the moment would be a 7.62mm Tokarev which could loosely fit your measurements but its not a headstamp I recognise....nor is it a rifle round.
There is a whole lot more information you could provide that would help considerably;
What is the calibre of the bullet?
What is the shape of the bullet? Pointed, roundnose etc..
What is the colour of the bullet? Copper, brass, silver..
What is the case made of?
Does the case have a shoulder or is it straight?
Does the case have a rim or is it rimless?
How is the headstamp laid out? I'm guessing its '1A' at 12 o'clock and '95' at 6 o'clock, but that is only a guess.
A bit more info please!
Jim

The bullet I dont know the calibre, but it is made of copper, it's rounded, the case is made of copper, has a shoulder and has a rim, and yes the "1A" is at 12 o'clock and the "95" at 6 o'clock. And I will try to get a picture up as soon as I can.

Spaceinvader,
Thanks for posting the picture, that's a big help. Your headstamp actually reads '18' at 12 o'clock and I think its '85' at 6 o'clock although its not quite clear on my screen.
Having said that...I have no idea what that cartridge is. I do hope somebody will recognise it and tell you otherwise but I'm thinking its a toy or elaborate fake. Sorry!
Jim

Hi Spaceinvader,
are you sure this case is only 24mm long?....doesn't look to be in the photo with your fingers as a scale.

Jim,
there is of course the scourge of so called 'wildcats' around at the moment:tinysmile_cry_t:

Cheers

Tony, yep, you're right about the caselength. It's certainly more than the 24mm stated - it looks to be about 39mm. Don't know...I'm giving up on this with the info available so far.

Hmmm, not a case lenght I know, was half expecting it to be 39mm or 45mm,headstamp is typically 'com bloc' but not one I can find...and I agree Jim 18 not 1A...the projectile and the case 'crimp' doesn't look right to me either, last time I saw something like this was from a on line dealer selling fired 50 cal ranging cases with turned copper coloured bar for projectiles with a smaller diameter than a 50 cal projectile!
