Unknown Projectile + fuse

Hi Everyone,

Came across this interesting projectile and fuse recently.....

The projectile is approx. 110mm (10.5cm?) and height (without fuse or adaptor) is ~22-23cm - has an interesting faint "1917" on top of a "XII" under it on the body - also other faint letters /numbers around the top.

Stamped on base is "W" a "21" and "+" ................

The totally alloy Percussion and Time fuse has a scale up to 32 secs and the nose is stamped "Z.4.17" on one side and "P.4.17" on the other.

There is also another "6.17" mid-section and something else above it -> "4 Z"??

I don't think it is German, perhaps Austrian ->>> even Swiss with that cross outline? (The stamped cross outline "+" should provides some clues and the narrow but very distintive driving band)

Thoughts?

Thanks
Cheers
Drew

Thanks Burney

How common /uncommon are they now?

Is that the correct fuse for it?

(This is the first one I have come across in Oz)

Thanks

Drew,

The fuze is dated 1917 so it probably does go with the shell if that is also dated 1917. Why haven't you shown a picture of the complete round as one? Not a common projectile but they are around, just strange to find one in Oz!

Regards
