Hi Guys,

Any thoughts on what this was used on?

It has a very interesting base stamp - perhaps a "R"?

Thanks
Cheers
Drew

the letter is a very typical acceptance stamp of the Krupp factory often found on ammunition components. Also the design of the plug is typical for Krupp. I'll lookup tomorrow if I find some shells/fuze adapters where it will fit. Material should be pure zinc or a zinc/tin alloy.

Dave / Stefan,

Yes it is made of zinc or some zinc alloy.

I assume it may be early pre-ww1 vintage but not sure when Krupp ceased using this style. If Stefan is able to advise the shell types, it may provide further insight into the period.

Thank Guys!

Cheers

Hello Drew,

if have not forgotten your thread. It would be of help if you could provide the following measurements:

Hi Stefan,

The measurements are (mm):

A= 34mm
B= 31.22mm
C= 7.71mm
D=~15.0mm

Thank you for your assistance - greatly appreciated.

Cheers

all meassurements would fit perfectly to two of my krupp brass fuze adapters except no. "D". Are the 15 mm meassured between 5 threads?

On my fuze adapters I measured 62 mm per 25 thread windings which makes 2,48 mm per winding. With your measurements I calculate 3 mm.

Hi Stefan,

I re-measured in better light (& in the morning) and now have 12.63mm between 5 threads (or "D" as in your photo) which is 2,52 mm

[+ or - my measuring errors :tinysmile_hmm_t:!]

Thanks
Cheers

Great! Than I will say that they will fit at least into the following adapters. Left is from a 10 cm shell from 1910, right is from a 21 cm HE shell from 1893. I know also of such adapters for 15 cm calibre.

Other than it looks on the image, inner diameter is the same on both.
