Hi. It may well be from a rifle grenade. Here's one that's more complete (has a spring attached) that I haven't started to clean yet. It does look like a two stage release (booby-trap, Rifle grenade, Spring mine?????). Cheers.

Hi. It does look Soviet. The only problem I have with that theory is that there is so much expertise in Soviet, US and Brit ordnance on this web site that it must be from somewhere else. Interesting that none of our current servicemen have come across it in the badlands either?? Cheers

Were a lot of different PMK-40 and it could be from one of model.
