Unknown German (?) ww1 shell case

Spitace41

Well-Known Member
Hi all, got this shell case from a car boot but do not know what it is. The only markings are Kp. 7. 18, C/12 then a faint 97 and a faint CC in an oval. Dimensions are approx 4.5in at the neck and about 5.5in in height. As you can see in the pics it has a weird indentation on the base and what appears to be a two piece construction that I have not seen before. If anyone can shed any light on this case it would be great.

Cheers.

Hi
case it's good, used on italian 102/35 Schneider mod. 14 naval gun, modified for field use on truck by Ansaldo.
case was cut down or made new in two pieces. CC was the inspector, 97 the lot.
very nice case

best regards

Sorry about that Spitace41! The top of your case in the first photo looked uneven like it had been cut down.

Why does it have a German C/12 primer if it was ued by Italy in WW1?

Hi
the primer it's strange to me...
italian mod.12 it's the national production of german C/12, my opinion:
someone screw the german primer;
german supply after ww1 to italy;
ammunition captured by german in italy and re used.

best regards

Thats it! Don't worry about it Falcon, you got me on the right tracks :). It certainly is a mystery about the German primer though.

Fert's theory about captured guns sounds plausible. The Germans were always very good at using anything they captured.
