Found a 37 mm or 3.7 cm projectile wich I can't identify.
I hope someone on the forum can a specially Gespragge I hope.

If you see my drawing don't start laughing.
I know that Holland had very good painters but not in my family.

The strange thing about the projectile are the four holes, so maybe smoke !!!!!!!.

As you can see on one of the photo's there's a plate inside but I can't tell you if this is the base plate or not (at the moment it can move.

If you have pictures or documentation please let me know

Regards,

Chris

First instance it reminds me (shape and height, and wide band) of a common Austrian shell (page 315 in the Mellichamp 37 mm book).

Hoeksel,

I don't no that book is it still for sale.
And what about the four holes, is there a picture of this one in the book?

Groeten,

Chris

Gespragge can help you with the book if needed. In the first book (the others are not published yet) I have not found projectiles with holes.

I also have a Dutch contact who might have a book for sale, PM me if needed.

Well ~

It certainly looks American Made with the double grooves around the base. Like the various Subcaliber types. The wall of it is thinner than normal. They usually have a solid thick base. and a separate nose as is this one. Early noses are removable latter ones not. These were made for export so to find one (I guess it was found in Holland) is not impossible. Markings if there are none on the band would be on the base now missing. If the piece inside can be removed and viewed that might help understand this. Is the brass top solid or a damaged fuze ? I have not seen one like it before if this is unaltered. Holes usually mean some kind of flame or smoke escape - or Lamp arms, but I suspect not a lamp in this case. All we know are the American issue types, exported kinds are unknown - especially if different than the U.S. standard.

If this had a filling that burnt for smoke etc. then there should be remains of the ignition system.

Hi Chris,

Question, on the second pic, can we see inside the shell from the bottom ? I ask it other wise, is there a screwable base plate ?

On first view, the driving band like to me very simple and rudimentary !
