The 7.5 MAS is Syrian. The word at the top is "Syria" in arabic, the date (57) is at nine o'clock and the calibe (7.5) at three oclock.
The initials at the bottom are "M.M.D." (in reverse in arabic) meaning "Munasat Maamal al Dafah'", arabic for "Defence Industries Syndicate".
The 7.9mm blank is a grenade blank as you thought, but I do not have any further information.
