Two British Shells

Australian Guy

New Member
Hello all, could someone please help with these two old shells. They appear 19th century, and are a little over 2 inch diameter and stand just over 19 inches high complete. I'm sure they are something very common, but I haven't got a lot of older stuff. Many thanks, Grant.

Nordenfelt / Hotchkiss

The case with the circular groove around the primer is a Nordenfelt type, the other likely Hotchkiss, basically the same thing. They look like Navy 6 pdr. base fused common shell.

Many thanks for the reply.

That makes sense, I have just discovered from the family I got them from they were from a ship called the HMAS Protector.

Cheers, Grant
