there comes a time

When buying ordnance and such I have always tried to get the best deal possible (guess i'm cheap). When a collection gets to a point that it takes a rarer piece to really round out a collection (pieces that cannot be had cheap) then the time comes for a decision to dig deep in the pocket book or not. I feel my collection would fare well with the addition of a couple of rare WW1 German grenades, which incidently I found at what I would call a fair price taking the rarity of these pieces into account. I have tried to add a piece or two to my collection every month, and say if a piece costs 100.00 or so I figured why not save up for some months and get 2 grenades that would enhance my collection many fold. Well I did it, items are paid for and en-route from Germany. I don't know why i'm even posting this, guess I am still trying to justify in my mind what I have spent. I did it by saving the amount and did not have to dip into family funds. When these 2 WW1 German grenades arrive, you'll be the 2nd to know. The wait is a nerve racking business. I think that I will be doing it more, I mean keep from buying anything for a while, put the saved monies into my ordnance account and should be able to pick up some stuff i've desired for some time. It is hard to not buy something when I get paid once a month, kind of like going through alcohol withdrawl. Always remember control your collection and don't let it control your life. That was my 2 bits worth for June 29th 2010. Good health and peace to all...Dano

Well said Dano. I feel the same way. Although, I don't pace myself very well. I have decided, that since my collection is my major retirement plan, and my children's inheritance, it needs to be worth some serious $$$. I find myself spending larger sums of money than my cheap-skate @$$ ever would in the past. After all, when it comes time to sell, and it will some day, it needs to be worth the maximum return on my investment. Sorry, felt the need to ramble.:crossedlips:

Thankyou for the kind words gentlemen. The word that really caught me was investment. One of the grenades I have coming, I used to have and paid 50GBP for it in the late 1990's. Well this time it was right at 5 times that amount some ten years later. I am a more careful collector now as I make it my lifes duty never to be forced to sell off anything to meet an obligation. This is my second time around collecting and it is so sweet. I absolutely love this hobby and can't wait till the next cool piece comes along all whilst being to really appreciate what I have been able to collect. I also feel that when these better pieces start getting here it may give me the kick in the ass I need to finish my book on German WW1 grenades and mortars. Cheers...Dano
