The French Collection.

Ive recently updated my french WW2 AFV ordnance collection, and wanted to share with everyone. Most of the collection originated from the French EOD and Ive picked up almost all items over the last year.

Is anyone brave enough to atempt accurate identification of the 10 items as described by France and, for the really adventurous, the German nomenclature...!!!

Those are really nice

All you need is a late 1930s made Mle 1888 (37x94r PD) and perhaps a 37x94r 1918 Gaba Fused HE. I once saw a photo of a French Tank (1939-40?) with a row of the Mle 1888s lined up on it -

2. 5th Projectile and case from the left in the picture
3. Finally, does anyone know the correct name of the fuze on the 9th projectile in from the left hand end, and also what the correct fuze should be if this is incorrect (I think it's wrong)

Hi Richard,

I believe the 5th projectile is in the wrong case. It is actually Belgian HE for the C47 anti tank gun and goes in the 47 x 280r case. The German ident for this was 185(b).

Thanks Burney, and as luck would have it, there was a c47 case for sale on SA. !!!..

So that leaves the case - do you have details of projectile that should go in it?.... I assume MLE 1934 C.19?

I want to relaunch this thread because I feel the French Tank and AT rounds a forgotten field on the WWII ordnance collecting.
Yes, French Tank Rounds is a semiforgotten field because France lost the war ver fast, but we cant forget that France is a great country with a lot of history and, very important, Germans used these rounds when captured them. So, I believe that it is very important for future references ask to all members who have in their collections these rounds for post pics of them. And if have more info or wartime photos post them too, of course. I hope to see many pics, but not only from the round, but detailed pics of markings of case bases and shells.

Sorry for the belated response, I stumbled across this while searching for something else!

Two different guns used 47 x 380R ammo:

Mle 1902 50 cal naval gun which was platform mounted for anti-tank use
Mle 1937 and Mle 1939 (differences only in the mounting) which was a casemate gun used for anti-tank defence of forts etc

There was also the Mle 1885 44 cal naval gun which was platform mounted for anti-tank use, this used 47 x 377R ammo which had a smaller rim/base diameter.
