speaking of egg grenades

Here is a picture of the German WWI m1917 and m1917 n/A eierhandgranates (egg grenades) that are in my collection. I now have 14 of them and still looking for the one with "HEH" stamped on the side of body (picture 2). I know who has one but I can't seem to trade him out of it. It was his, then he traded it to me and a few years later I traded it back to him! MISTAKE! The HEH stamp is not uncommon, but on the side of body is tough to find....Dano

Hi Vinny, I would guess it is pretty rare. This is the only one i've seen with the stamp on the body rather than the base. Also the short snout where the igniter screws in also seems to be unique to one of these eggs. I have been working on getting it back for a few years now. Won't sleep till I get it back. I think the m1917 German egg grenade is right up there with my favorites. I have seen 1 other side body stamped egg. I think it was Czech but can't remember what the stamping read. Always looking for eggs that are a "tad different"........Dano

manufacturers markings m1917 & m1917 n/A eggs

That I don't know, and have tried various avenues to research it. Possibly one of our German members can help as I would also be interested in finding out. There is an old thread I started a long time ago showing the varioous base markings found on the m1917 and m1917 n/A egg grenades. There are many. I'll try and find that old thread and link it.......Dano
