Smart water

Hello
Just thought I'd share my experiance with smart water.
For those that dont know anything about it,I will try and explain the best I can.

Smart water is a theft deterent, property marking liquid currently given away free to some UK households, but available to purchase from their website too.

The liquid is unique to your address and only a minute particle is needed to be traced back to the owner if recovered, and is almost impossible to remove.
The liquid itself has a unique chemical composition,so no liquid is the same.

In a typical kit you get a small bottle with an 'eye lash type' applicator, and some special window stickers.
They are very strict on who has the window stickers and you must be registered to have any extra.

Now I dont like advertising to crooks that valubles are in my house by having a sticker on the door BUT, Ive spoken to more than one Police officer and they all say theives dont go near a property with smartwater in use.
They really dont like it.
Its a real deterent.

Also,Police actively look for this marking (in special U.V lit dark rooms)as it leads directly to a conviction.
It really is a great deterent and anything that helps us to keep our collections alittle safer is of great use.

I was cautious of applying the liquid, but on advice only a tiny amout is needed and you can always find an area to place it.
The liquid is water based and dries clear but a little glossy.
You should apply it to a textured area,so it cant be removed.

I think its better than using a U.V. pen to write your post/zip code on as the crooks can write over this with another U.V pen.

Theres also a commercial system available that can spray an intruder with a mist of smart water at the point of break in!
If a crook is arrested they are walked through a U.V. lit dark room, and the spray can easily be linked to the crime.

Maybe if all collections were marked with smartwater,it could save alot of heart ache if stolen as when stuff is sold on, it could be tested and re united with the owner.
It doesnt matter what the monetary value of our stuff is,its just heartbreaking if we get anything stolen.

Heres the link.

Thanks

It is a good system,, but would be easier to do what they do in,,,,, some ,, other coutries,, cut the hands of thieves,, they'll soon get the message and stop.

Cheers Nick,

serously though we used it at work for a while , good stuff.

Very good idea, a crook without hands! It wouldn't work here in the US though. Without any hands our politicians wouldn't be able to have their hands out to collect money from lobbyists.

seems good but what if you decide to sell the stuff ?

You contact smartwater and have your item you want to sell removed from the list attached to your house/postcode.
Its also a good idea to make a note of who you sold it to.

Regards
