I take these pictures in an ammunition collection. It shows the simulator DM 25 that the Bundeswehr used in the 60 and 70-ies. The simulator has a weight of 55 kg and contains 24 kg of black powder and 24 kg of a flash composition. Approx. 5 sec. after detonation a cloud is formed which reach an altitude of approx. 60 m.

Nice pictures. For the sake of completeness only: the long form on the pyrotechnic device means: "to be used until" followed by month and year.

I have never seen this object in action, but I would have liked to. :)

This load was obviously too exceptional even for the Bundeswehr. The successor model DM25A1B1 was reduced to an effective charge of 38.5 kg and the composition of the flash-smoke-powder was also changed, to make it less harmful to health (what also modified the color of the smoke).

Best wishes
