Santa brought me a QF 3.7 inch round!

Hi,

Santa brought me a QF 3.7 inch projectile one for Christmas! The fuze and shell casing are original. The projectile itself was made in a local shop from scratch. Painting was done by myself, based on information I found on this site
The best part: I got "permission" from my wife to put it in the kitchen corner on display. Had to remove the 90mm APCBC round somewhere else though :)
All the best for 2012,

The projectile is indeed made from solid steel, made hollow a bit to near the original weight. Fitters had quit some work to get the projectile in the not so round neck of the cartridge shell. Lucky for me a fixed price was agreed :)

I have a fuze and a case for this cartridge as well. If I can find a piece of large diameter thick copper piping for the band, I have considered making a projectile myself.

Big copper tube is not easy to find, try your local scrappy or get a bit of thick copper strip ie bus bar and bend it round and see if someone can copper weld it shut or make the shell and fit it in the turned groove and after making sure the ends join very neatly apply araldite to the groove and put the split ring in and pull it up with a pair of jubilee clips, pray the glue holds when you undo the clips after its well gone off. you get a good band which will turn so long as you keep it very cool during machining with fine cuts and a thin joint line that only shows when you look for it. You may have to anneal the strip to get it round and as its soft it turns like cheese.
