S mine 35 cap question

Hi everyone , the springmines have interesting industrial culture , many variations , 4 types of colouring , and yet i havent seen an answer for this thingy , the cap has a technical cut through wich have appeared on mines in 1942 (not official , im judging by numerous samples of s mines , and my personal finds , and my collegues from all over the eastern front)
So what is the purpouse of this cut?
Is it for key?
Or somekind of sealing?
Or is it for soldering purpouses.?
P.s photos are from my comrades.
