I thought to post a few pictures of a Russian Navy 3 Pounder (47x376) which turned up recently, it is dated 1893 which is a nice early example. Can anybody help with the manufacturer?
I often wonder where items such as this have been for 132 years, in this case there was a clue. Inside the case were a few scraps of newspaper, once straightened they were printed in Paris, France. Initially I could not work out a date, then noticed a section on aviation news (as pictured). The article reports on an attempt by USN PN9 flying boats to fly non-stop between San Francisco and Hawaii. If you Google the aircraft the story comes up and is worth a read! This event dates the newspaper to around August 1925, so it has been in the case for one hundred years!
