I have an original 200 Gram Schü Mine and after getting a copy of “TM 5-223C German Mine Warfare Equipment” and seeing an illustration of the 400 Gram Schü Mine, I decided to make a repro of it. Following the dimensions shown in TM 5-223C, I decided it must have been constructed of 1/4” plywood, the same as my 200 Gram. The problem today is getting 1/4” plywood, it’s all closer to 3/16” thickness. Finally found some on Amazon, it came in 12” squares, which was ideal. I wanted my repro to appear old and possibly used, I tried to match its finish to my original 200 Gram Mine. I took two sheets of the plywood and buried them for about two months, which gave me the weathering I wanted. The original was put together with tiny wire brads, so I used brads which I rusted before using them. The 200 Gram charges I had made up previously, for other projects. I think it looks pretty good, when compared to the original 200 Gram Mine.
