R1M1 Prac A/Pers mine

Hello everyone,

First off, a very big thank you for helping me with this item Andy I very much appreciate it  . This is a great example, there is a bit of damage here-and-there but nothing that cannot be fixed. Dated 1979 this mine looks very similar to it's successors, the R2M1 and R2M2, but the biggest differences seen is the fuse assembly and booster charge well. The fuse lacks the clear plastic sleeve seen in the R2M2 models.

Enjoy the pics!

Before I cleaned the mine it did look as though it had an HE substitute at one point. There was a lot of red/brick coloured powder all over the inside of the mine and especially in the housing where the RDX charge would be located, if there was an HE sub it was unfortunately removed by past owners. It is very possible that this powder may be what is left of a smoke charge as speaking to SADF/SANDF veterans a few mentioned training mines with smoke charges.

Hope this helps!

yes I have seen that red brick powder residue on the elsie mines and also on the M16 bounding mine which also had a smoke practice charge

A smoke charge would explain the holes drilled through the booster charge well and the one cover. The holes would allow the detonator to initiate the smoke charge without the help of a booster and might have blown the top cover off, allowing smoke to escape.
