Heyup there
Read with interest some threads re legallity. Can someone tell me what was the most popular Brit mine in ww2? [the ones laid on our beaches], also for display purposes does anyone make reproductions? resin or otherwise,or is it illegal to sell repro's as it is RIF'S if not in a bona fide group.

There is an import/transportation ban on landmines, and the repros are included in the ban.

John,
what is the basis for the ban on transport/reproductions? The landmine treaty is on anti-personnel mines only, and only for the countries that have signed and ratified (i.e. not us). Looking through the treaty I see in the obligations that each State Party (to the treaty) shall never develop, produce, acquire, retain, transfer, etc anti-personnel mines. Further, AP mines means "a mine designed to be exploded by the presence, proximity or contact of a person" Mine means a munition designed to be placed under on or near the ground or other surface area and to be exploded blah, blah, blah - Replicas/repros would not fall under this definition.

Nothing that I read in the text of the treaty (http://www.icbl.org/index.php/icbl/Treaty/MBT/Treaty-Text-in-Many-Languages) mentions anything about replicas/repros. In addition there is a specific exception for AP mines retained or transfered for the purpose of development and/or training for detection, clearance, destruction. I may be missing something, but I would expect it to have been listed under obligations, definitions or exceptions.

Is there another regulation?

As the U.S. sales rep for Securesearch here in the states, I would occaisonally get requests from government agencies for replica mines. All my quotes would go through the Corporate office in Toronto, and the Director told me repeatedly that even replicas would require some form of End User Certificate or be directly shipped from Europe to the Military. This restriction might be caused by U.S. Customs. I was told it even replied to replicas, but there are a number of levels of replica from solid resin casting to exact copy with moving parts. I don't have the exact code in front of me, but I can ask what it is.

In the UK the Landmines Act 1998 implements the Ottawa Convention on anti-personnel land mines. It clearly sets out what is a prohibited article ( please be aware that any component of an a/pers mine is also prohibited) and the specific circumstances when possession may be permissible and from whom the permission is granted.
Link to the legislation here - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1998/33/pdfs/ukpga_19980033_en.pdf

The most common beach mine would be the 'Mine B type C' heavy beach mine.
