Hi,

Can anybody tell me which countries used the shell in pictures:
- 156.jpg and 156a.jpg (76,2mm x 385mm) ?
- 161.jpg and 161a.jpg (76mm x 384mm) ?
Also what is the meaning of the circle stamp above the date 1917 on shell 161a.jpg and on the bottom of shell 156a.jpg?

Does anybody know the meaning of the letters "Mx Cin" and the letter L in a circle on the shell in picture 382a.jpg (37mm x 200mm)?

Thanks,

Jef

Hello

The 76,2mm round is used by the Russian Guns.

Germany used this gun as FLAK GUN ; and the cases were of many origins :

  • French export (for example the first case stamped SCHNEIDER) . Schneider is a french factory.
  • British
  • US
  • Russian
  • German
  • ... etc ...
The 37mm case is a french naval round , used also as subcaliber training cartridge.

L (in the circle) is a controler hstp of the french navy , typicaly for the navy.
This letter (L) is for the french town "Lorient" i think.

The stenciled markings on the first case look Czech.

Jef,

On the first case it appears to be a 'C' within a circle. On the second case this appears to be two concentric 'C's which was the trade mark of the Canadian Cartridge Company. However, there are no Canadian Government stamps on the case and there is the second maker's stamp of 'F.P.S.Co' (which I am unable to identify).

Regards

TimG

The black markings on the very first case are Finnish. The Finns reused and reloaded plenty of foreign stuff.

Hi, here is CKOALA !
I have been betrayed by computer and most part of my answer disapered !
so SC BX is the french cases factory located in Bordeaux and run by Schneider. The second 76,2 mm case was made by an american factory from the Bethlehem Steel Company group but the meanning of the letter is not known from me.
The 37 mm case is french from the navy and was used for training with a small gun inserted in the chamber of the largest calibers. The letter T C stand for Tube Canon model of 1902. Mx was the french factory settled near Paris at Moulineaux but the letters Cin is not yet known rom me.

I agree with EOD that the first case is for Finland.

Hi

First case :
Produced in a french factory ; used during the first WW (by Russia or Germany).

May be recharged / refilled by the Finland (but what year ??? ).

Normaly the year is written withe the indications of the pownder.
