PTAB 10-5 HEAT-FRAG clusterbomb, Russia

Cutaway model of a PTAB 10-5 HEAT-FRAG (shaped charge and franmentation) clusterbomb. This 10,5 kg heavy Russian clusterbomb is from the 1950’s of the last century. The bomb body, the nose piece, the tail and the cone are steel made.

In the base of the clusterbomb the ADC-583 impact tail impact fuze is placed.

Functioning of the ADC-583 impact tail fuze:
The fuze body is bakelite made, a booster is screwed into the base of the fuze with a duplex detonator in the center of the booster. A strong pressure spring is placed on top of the booster, keeping the firing pin away from the duplex detonator. The firing pin consists of an inertia weight (cilinder) with a needle at the base. The top part of the fring pin is a shaft with a groove.
The impeller has two radial placed spring loaded pins, placed in two small opposite tubes at the base of the impeller that fit in the groove of the firing pin, which fixate the firing pin.
As soon as the PTAB 10-5 is released ftom the RBK 500-225 bomb body the impeller will rotate fast in the airstream, throwing the two radial pins outward, riding the springs. This releases the impeller to fall away from the firing pin, rendering the fuze live. Upon impact inertia swings the firing pin forward, pushing the needle into the duplex detonator, exploding the bomb

30 PTAB 10-5’s are placed in a RBK-500-255 Clusterbomb.

Length PTAB 10-5 : 357 mm
Diameter PTAB 10-5 : 90 mm
Tail diameter : 120 mm
Weight PTAB 10-5 : 5,5 Kg (changed from 10,5 to 5,5 kg after MinenAz pointed out the mistake)

There is no info to be found about the PTAB 10-5 on data like type of explosives used, explosives weight, and armour penetration. If anybody has any info, please feel free to add this to the posting.

Regards, DJH

Again, nice one DJ.
I'm not sure but I have other datas :
Weight : 5.5kg
Explosive : 800gr TG-50
Fuzes : ADTs (АДЦ) or PDTs (ПДЦ).

This is where I have my fuze info from;

Where I Got my bomb from there were aboaut six more of these bombs, all with the fuzes tight fit in the tail.

@ Minenaz ; can you publish the data?

@ Minenaz ; I just weighed the cutaway model, it's 3,2 kg Add 1/4 makes it 4 kg , add 0,8 kg of explosives makes 4,8 kg. So I suppose it's nearer to your 5,5 kg than my 10,5 kg. I will change that data

Datas are from my work documentation.
For the fuze I know ADTs is also translated as ADC.
The doc shows a second fuze on the bomb PDTs - ПДЦ (also translated as PDC).

Underlined added and ..fixed :)
AДЦ fuse is for PTAB-10-5 (ie older labs)
ПДC fuse is for PTAB-2.5.
AДЦ-583 fuse is "new" for the PTAB-10-5 instead of the original ADC fuse (i.e. newer labs)
Literature - fuse:
The original regulation from 1949 for the ADC fuse replaced the regulation from 1964 for both fuse, i.e. PDC+ ADC.
Руководсто по подготовке АДЦ для ПТАБ 1949 . link : ... https://disk.yandex.ru/i/szdvFsQn1yoGyA
Mistakes in literature:

On the board of the company SKB GmBH ..and not only there is a bombs that was manufactured under license PTAB-2.5 by Czechoslovakia with an ADC fuse, there is no fuse used by the Russian Air Force, see the original Russian prescription, ie PDC. It is structurally based on the old wartime version of the bombs. At first glance, it does not have a fragment case on the body like war bombs.
The body color is green and the stenciling is Czech.
By the way, the Russian ADC bomb fuse was produced under license in Czechoslovakia. I don't know anything about PDC fuse, whether they were manufactured in Czechoslovakia.
---------
By the way, does anyone have a cross-sectional drawing of the PDC ?
Akon.
