i have this beautiful factory cutaway of a US Proximity fuze. Maybe someone can give me some informations:

-What is the exact name?
-Was this fuze used in World War II ?
-During what period was the fuze manufactured?
-What ammunition was the detonator used for?
-What does C721 mean?

The thread appears finer than 12 tpi, more 14 tpi. The fuze appears to have a taper seat. These suggest an early U.K. fuze manufactured by the U.S.

Our (UK) first proximity fuzes were the T97, T98 and T149.

There have been a number of different items of info given on British WW2 VT fuzes, so I thought I would show a couple of pages from the ONLY book ever written on VT fuzes (see TimG's link mentioned above). It's pages 213 & 214 which lists all the different VT fuzes developed and supplied to the US and British Navies; the US and British Armies, and the type of weapons each was used on.

There were four supplied to the British Navy: Mk 33, Mk 41, Mk 58 and Mk 60; and another four to the British Army: T97, T98, T100 and T149. There is still very little information come to light on these, and very few, if any, in the major Army or Naval Museums.
