Good afternoon,
Attached are a number of images of a steel box. It is, as far as I know, from WW2 and was found at 25 ASD (25 Ammunition Sub-Depot) in Gartmore. It has painted markings (Stripes and letters/numbers) and also a name and address (the house still exists) - plus less obvious lettering. Looking at the stripes, and knowing it was found at 25ASD, I wondered if this was a shell box. Its dimensions are 34.5" x 18" x 15" (87.5cm x 45.8cm x 38cm). Regarding the name and address it occurred to me that perhaps the box was latterly repurposed as a trunk. Actualy, to be able to identify the name / person would be quite something!
Any help in identifying it and, if it is a shell / fuze / detonator box what would it have contained, would be greatly appreciated.
Paul
