Ouch ! There is a grenade stuck in my head !

kinda looks like a V40 with the clip and spoon still in place, wonder how that could ahve gotten under skin. I ahve a couple xrays of a 35mm subcal, a 40mm and a 60 mortar sti\uck int he body but they were all propelled and penetrated the bodies

The story online about this is,,
the soldier was walking behind another who stood on a mine, the grenade was blown off the webbing of the one who stood on the mine and into his head

Could the gren in forehead have been as a result of an explosion amongst stored/readied grenades and the gren itself becoming a form of shrapnel, there does not seem any other explanation as to how it gained enough energy to penetrate the forehead of the unfortunate person in the pic,I saw some years ago a series of pics where a V/N soldier walked into a US forward hospital with a live 40mm gren lodged in his back(it had been there two days),sandbags were placed around the man as doctors removed the gren,I believe the man(and doctors)survived the experience,
Don,

Looking at it, could also be the frag ball off of a 40mm. Cheers, Bruce.
