Ordnance loading machinery and associated items

I am interested in the equipment which is used in US Army Ammunition Plants, i.e. the loading equipment, chemical reactors, assembly machines, energetics loading machinery, etc.

Can someone school me on this?

What have the major developments been in these areas? What do the machines look like?

Does someone have pictures?

Thanks.

Most of the types of equipment you list are proprietary to the countries and companies that use them. Therefore very few photos or descriptions of them are ever seen. In addition, it is warfare oriented equipment which makes it even more confidential.

I did see an article years ago about the machinery that machined the explosive booster wells in large artillery projectiles. The TNT would be cast into the projectile all the way to the top and allowed to cool, then the projectile would would rotate into a vault where a large milling cutter would bore the hole back into the explosive. The boring was done in a vault, so if it exploded, it wouldn't damage the rest of the factory.

I wonder what happened to all the TNT shavings produced during that operation. That would have been a large quantity of waste explosive to remove somehow.

what about the explosives loading machines...i think i have seen the BLU-97 machine somewhere cannot remember.

@Falcon,

They would most likely use a vacuum system to suck up the machined TNT, and then just recycle it back into the melting pot.
