Hello all this is my new stuff from beltring ,many thanks to the members who very kindly donated the majority of these items,,as you can see its a good varied selection of items ,now i just have to figure out where to display it all
Hi Spotter, thats a really nice selection of bits you picked up. you are quite right the studded shell is a 9 lb one.
I really like that massive piece of shrapnel.
Best regards Weasel.
Morning Paul, its not actually a grenade ,its a smaller version of the 4lb smoke sub munition dropped from cluster containers and fitted with the no859 fuze an adaptation of the 247 fuze .as you will see from the photos it is smaller than the 4lb smoke which measures according to documents 7.5 inch X 3.6 inches. This is 4.5in X 2.5in .The caps on the fuze has no threads
Weasel ref the frag,,its a big piece over 60cm long and still as sharp as the day the bomb exploded, got to try and figure out how to display this so its child friendly
will get you a frag like it if you want, I have several more.
This one came from a US or Brit 500lb or 1000lb GP bomb, and recovered from 6meters deep.
On this depth we also found base plates with remains of fuzes and pistols.
The MC frags are much thinner and less sharp.
Will bring some over next time I get launched through the tunnel...
