Hi Chaps,

please have a gander at the proj to the left of the picture.Its got a ww2 german AZ23 fuze in it and fits perfectly but im not convinced its a ww2 proj?
look at that driveband for starters?..
Its approx 75mm,but stencilled `VIS 4-5-37`
I think its first world war?.if so,the fuze stays with me and the proj goes north on a trip next week....

Can you post the following dimensions?

1. Height from base to top (without fuse)
2. Height from base to bottom of drive band
3. Thickness of drive band.

SG!,my man!

Top to bottom is 25cm,
base to bottom of drive band is 25mm,
drive band is 5mm thick.
To look at it from above/side you would think it was an 88 with the way the threads are cut and that way the `ridge` is cut angular.

It is hard to tell from the picture but the measurements match it up to a 7.5cm Jgr 18 for the 7.5cm le IG18.

I would ask for a second opinion as I am not 100% sure.

Forgot to ask what is the complete stamp on the fuse.

Is it "L Jgr. AZ. 23 nA"?

My old mucker Mick was over tonight and he is convinced its ww1 because of the driveband.
Im sure its ww2 because of where the fuze attaches and it just `looks` ww2?
The fuze markings are AZ23 asf 44 and it has the selector switch for `O`,`M` and Vo,15.

The drive band would be right for the 7.5cm Jgr 18.

I'm not sure if that projectile used a AZ 23 fuse but I have a spare lgr Z23 nA if you are interest I can email you some pictures.

Mick reckons its ww1,im convinced with the fuze fitting,its ww2!!!
Theory,
Could this be a ww1 proj `re-cut` for use in ww2? Mick laughed when i suggested that!

This is getting way out of my area but the ZZ fuse you have is a time fuse for a star shell (I think). The infantry projectile used a Doppelznder "Dopp Z" which was a time and percussion fuse or the simple percussion fuse.

You need one of the mainland European experts to confirm this. If I remember right Dopp Z fuses are very rare.

How was this round fired?,was it seperatley loaded or was it cased?

It was unfixed.
The case had 5 different charges and the ammo was packed in a wicker basket with 4 compartments. 3 for the projectiles and one section contained a holder for 3 cases.

You are correct on that `threaded insert` on the proj.The join line can just be seen on close inspection.
I wonder if it was ww1 stock `sleeved` to take a ww2 fuze?
