My Collection

Well I tried to change the heading of "MY" to "My collection" but it didn't work. Maybe one of he Mods could change it for me, Ray

I know this is mostly an Ordinance collection forum but Chris 42 RQ suggested, when I introduced myself as a new member, that I should post photos of my collection here even though it only consists of a few US and German grenades. He said some folks here would appreciate seeing it?
I had started a thread showing my collection on another site and to save a lot of time and work reposting all the photos, here is the link to that thread. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2364

I'll add photos of some of the additional items I have that are not shown or closer views of some items in future days. Thanks Ray

My WWII US rifle grenade launchers.
The carbine launcher on top is the early screwed on end cap with the solid washer. I show these in my collection above but grouped all four here, Ray

Here's a close up of the wire helmet that's on the German with the MP44. The soldier had twisted loops extra loops in the wire all around it to insert twigs, leaves etc. Ray

A reminder of the horrors of war.
This T-99 Japanese rifle was taken from a dead soldier in a bunker after he was killed by a flame thrower. The stock is charred in several places and the burn marks are consistent with the damage that would have been caused by a gun exposed to a liquid flame spray splatter from a flame thrower being limited to small areas on different sides of the gun, Ray

wadda fine collection

Hi Ray, Since the last time I posted in this thread, i've had a chance to look over your collection with the proverbial fine toothed comb. Wow brother do you have some collection. My comment in my first post in this thread was just about the grenades you had pictured here. I had no idea how comprehensive your collection is. EXCELLENT and then some..Dano

Here's a nice camo helmet that I have on the German sniper display. It came out of the foot locker of a Major who brought it back with a number of other neat items. Ray

An interesting story about the Major. He was a well regarded Scientist in pre war life and in a news paper interview after the war he related how he was able to find and return the world famous ant collection known as the Wasmann collection. He stated he found out the collection was located in a damaged museum in the Russian sector and he drove to the museum with a ten ton truck, as the collection was so large it needed a large truck to handle it. He loaded up the truck with the collection and the Russians came and sealed off the entrance to prevent him from leaving. As his story went, he had brought along candy, cigarettes and whiskey and passed them out to the Russian guards and got the Rusian in comand drunk enough to have him lease the trucks.
The camp he liberated was a slave labor camp and as he was driving by it he spotted it and it was being guarded by SS guards. A US tank happend by and he had the tank aim it's cannon at the gate at which time the guards opened up the gate and took off. There were some wooden handled leather wipps in his foot locker also and some finished and partly finished cloth insignias, all of which came from the camp. Ray

Here's the camo helmet on my German sharpshooter display, The tunic is 1941 dated which was customized with a green collar by the NCO. The Straight leg trousers are also 1941 dated. The weapons are a 1943 byf K98 Mauser with a Z41 scope and his side arm is a 96 Broomhandle 30 cal. Mauser pistol which is complete with the wooden shoulder stock and harness. Ray

Here's one of my favorites, my Mp44. It's a full working model and shown with my Eastern front german display. Also on the German is an original MP44 pouch. What's interesting about the pouch is it was not completely finished as the straps that the long closure straps slide into to secure them were not installed. The ink dots to position the straps are visible. The pouch is in mint condition. Original MP44 pouches are quite scarce. I put an original camo smock on him for winter camo wear. Ray

I only have three German helmets and they are on my three German set-ups.
Here's the third one, a German Fallschirmjager helmet that's displayed on the FJ display.
It's a decent untouched and fairly early one. Ray
