MkII .303 round with MAXIM headstamp

Can anyone give me any info on this round

It is a MkII Ball .303 round with a "MAXIM 1895" headstamp ??

Cheers
Richard.

These were made by Eley Bros. for the Maxim company to sell with their machine guns. The same headstamp exists on .577/.450 Martini rounds with cupro-nickel jacketed bullets.

Another .303 inch variation of this is one originally headstamped "1 C II" but overstamped with "MAXIM". Again this is believed to have been made by Eley as it is probable that they are contractor "1".

Many thanks Tony I have found it in Labbett & Mead's book, I have chance of buying an inert one but not sure what I should be paying

Difficult to say as I have had mine for years, but I would describe them as scarce rather than rare. Given today's silly prices i would think 10 -15 would be tops.

However, let's see what others say. I don't normally deal with inert rounds so am not the best person to ask.

There are also .303 Blank rounds with the MAXIM headstamp, but I don't know if they started life as ball rounds.

T'is also in TonyEs own books  .....Rich,there is a reserve on it but judging by the reserve and opening bids on his other stuff it's only a squid more than the reserve price!
