MG links

Greetings all,

At a recent Militaria Fair I picked up some links & wooden bulleted blanks of German origin.

I do not think the links belong to the rounds:A) because of the difference in condition between the two & B) also I havn't seen German links like this before (havn't seen many at all actually!)

What sort of link have I got please?
Regards Ozzi.

They look like 7.92 mauser bulleted blank in disintegrating links used in Aircraft machine guns. Hangarman

Hmmm, any more suggestions? I am still none the wiser with 2 different opinions here!

I was hoping for German AC MG link! But will be happy with other link as it is different to all others in my collection.

Thanks guys,

Regards Ozzi.

Hi Ozzi, They may be Austrian links as I am not familiar with the exact pattern of holes in the links but they look like disintegrating links and the only disintegrating links that the Germans used were in Aircraft Machineguns. The rounds are 7.92 mauser bulleted blank, again may be Austrian. I guess they would function in an aircraft machine gun but have not heard of them being used. I'm sure there are more knowledgeable people out there who can give a positive id. Cheers hangarman

Hi Ozzi,
they are, as EOD said, Austrian 7.62x51(nato) links, they are 7.92mm blanks in them...7.92mm rounds will fit in 7.62mm links and visa versa..if you can post a clear photo of the blanks headstamps I sure the country of origin can be id'd

Tony

Looks like P207, Metallwerk Odertal GmbH (later bne) in the Harz montains, south of Braunschweig, Germany.

Ok, OK ,Ok, thanks all for the replies & re-confirmation that the links are 7.62 x 51. The 7.92 wood bulleted blanks are German from the headstamp, that was the easy part for me.

I appreciate your knowledge & willingness to share.
Cheers, Ozzi.
