Magnetic mine CLAM

Hello Small question at the same time as the presentation of my mines land CLAM MkI MKII, MKIII. (comes from parachuting to the French resistance) The CLAM MKI is with the body in Zinc or is that with the body in bakelite with 8 small Horseshoe Magnets? On the photo of the CLAM MKII that I present a how-to is stuck on filler. I put German manuals pages indicating CLAM MKI: 8 magnets, horseshoe, bakelite body CLAM MK II 2 magnets right and bakelite body CLAM MK3 body in zinc A manual parachuted to the French resistance (1942/1943) the CLAM has 8 magnets Do you know the models correct and evolution of the CLAM? Thanks for your replies Barnabé

The same picture and in manual for Croatian partizans. And in manual was and unknown model on Limpet mine. I made topic about picture few years ago here on BOCN, but unfortunatly no one coeldn`t recognize it.
I think produced Clam Mk II in few version - when magnets were well (2 magnets) and not well - 8 magnets. I think it`s the reason.

Hi Barnabe, and Ivashkin

My understanding of the development of the clam is as follows:

MD1 Clam Mark I (Metal) - Tin/Zinc shallow body with two floating magnets.

MDI Clam Mark I (Plastic) - Bakerlite shallow body, with fixed magnets, also sometimes called a Mk II.

MDI Clam Mark II - Deeper Bakerlite body with floating magnets.

Clam Mk III - Deeper Bakerlite body with floating magnets. For general Army issue.

A couple of pictures (Sorry for quality) of Clam Mk I (Plastic), sometimes Mk II compared with Clam Mk III

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thank you SWITCH for the valuable information. If I understand correctly, there are 2 versions of CLAM MKI metal (Zinc) and bakelite (plastic) with 8 horseshoe magnets.

Your photos with the CLAM MKI and MKIII show us the difference in height. IT's very good.

M.D.1 Instruction sheet for "The Clam" Mk I is superb.

Thank you all for your answers
