M4 Japanese Howitzer shell case?

Brian Keith

Well-Known Member
Here is a Japanese Howitzer shell case; I think it is for the M4. The case is 260mm high and about 155mm in diameter. My reference indicates it would be a 150mm shell. I think it was made at Tokyo Arsenal, from the stacked cannonballs symbol.
I would appreciate confirmation or corrections of my assumptions and any other information.
Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed seeing it.

Hi Brian,

It is indeed a 150mm case. It was manufactured at the Kokura Army Arsenal in January 1941. The "Stacked Cannonballs" used to be used by the Tokyo Army Arsenal until around the mid 30's from memory (I would have to check through all of my paperwork to find the exact date) and then it was used by the Kokura Arsenal.

The primer was made at the Osaka Army Arsenal in Febuary 1944.

Cheers,
