M1/ M2 20mm Cannon Question

I am trying to find some pictures of the different rounds used in these weapons. I have seen black and white photos of the rounds being loaded into P-38's and P-61's but would like to see some good closeup pictures of any stenciling and color codes of the rounds. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was also wondering if there was ever a time that someone could purchase a demilled/replica(composite) M1/M2 cannon. Do the muzzle brakes for this weapon ever come up for sale in case I try to fabricate one?

Thanks again.

If you do a search on this forum, search for 20mm Hispano (the american m2 20mm was a version of this),you'll find lots of pics of original rounds and colour charts. The US generally followed the same colouring, with variations off course!

Pic of some replica Hispano mk2 20mm cannon for a Mosquito restoration.
Most fitting of the Hispano didn't have any muzzle brake and only some of the American(M2) did.
cheers,
Bob

In British service, the muzzle brakes were only used with the early magazine-fed guns. When production switched to belt fed, the muzzle brake was deleted because the recoil was needed to drive the BFM.

Bob and Tony,

Thank you for the info! The Mossie replica's look awesome, and I will definitely have to run a search and see what I can find. I appreciate the information regarding the muzzle brake, I am not very familiar with the weapon and have some sort of HE round that I have cleaned up and want to paint correctly. Again thanks for the info.

Thanks,
Scott
