Limpet mine harness

Hello all,

I am currently reading a book called 'Rogue Male' about a guy from a Yeomanry who joins SOE in Greece. He mentions asking for a limpet mine harness, so that he can swim 300 yards to a vessel that he wishes to destroy. I have never seen one of these harnesses but it is described as canvas with a metal chest plate (for magnets to attach to), so you can swim on your back to the target with your hands free.

Does anyone have a picture of one of these harnesses and where they made to order for special operations?

Don't know about the exact one you speak about, but a quick search on google revealed this link with a picture from 1943 which I thought was interesting...

Yeah, I saw this one, but doesn't quite fit the description in the book. Problem is, the book was written from diary notes, so may not be that accurate.

Ah! Now that looks like it could be what was described. For some reason I had in my mind a shoulder suspended harness, webbing like, but this makes sense.

I think the one shown in the link is an early version, maybe it was modified slightly, but certainly looks like this conforms to the overall concept.
